Illegal Police Raid on Anti-RNC Convergence Space in St. Paul

Twin Cities Indy Media

The police presented no warrant at the time of the raid, but claim that they have a warrant to search the space for “bomb-making” materials. No “bomb-making” materials were found. Rather, the police barked orders for everyone, including a 5 year old child, to get on the floor with their faces to the ground. Everyone inside was put in handcuffs.

In the hours following, the police photographed everyone inside the space and recorded information from their Identification cards. The police took all personal laptops and hard drives.

One female activist was sexually harassed by a cop who groped her crotch.

What the f%^&? Are we entering a police state these days? This is freedom? This truly is a sad time we’re living in.

UPDATE: More news from TwinCities.com

Journalist Amy Goodman confronts police chief over her arrest

Salazar, who said she and Kouddous were wearing press passes, said she asked police, “Where can I go? I’m trying to move through these cars.” She said she shouted at police that she was with the press.

“They just knocked me to the ground, grabbed my arms,” Salazar said. An officer put his boot between her shoulder blades and someone grabbed her leg, she said. They ordered her to put her face on the ground.

When Kouddous saw what was happening, he said he told police, “I’m media, she’s my colleague, please release her.”

Kouddous said two or three officers then grabbed him. He said they threw him against a wall and to the ground. An officer kicked him twice in chest, Kouddous said.

I have no doubt that the anarchists involved in the protests deserved to be handled with force, but that doesn’t mean anyone and everyone deserves this treatment. These people should not be allowed to wear a uniform if they can’t discern a real threat from someone acting within their rights. I’m not a cop because I know that when my adrenaline is pumping it would be hard for me to respond to such a situation appropriately. These people are supposed to be trained to handle these situations. Mentally and physically.

Watching the Youtube video I think the reporter featured (Amy Goodman) should have behaved more appropriately, given the situation, to not end up in cuffs. Plus, I wouldn’t say she was handled inappropriately. If the police tell you to back up, reporter or not, back up and then stress your point or indicate you are press. I probably would have cuffed her as well.

However, if the story of the other reporters is true, it’s sickening.

9-year-old boy told he’s too good to pitch

“Thank god we’re punishing people for talent and hard work. Let’s not allow excellence to get out of hand, okay?” Quote from Digg.com that sums up this BS.

From Yahoo:

The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.

Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho’s team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho’s coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned.

I saw this story on Kare 11 last night. Heard about it again this morning on 93X. Then, it popped up on Digg. This is really pathetic. What an awful example these adults are setting for the children involved. Please, don’t strive for excellence. For if you achieve it, you will no longer be allowed to participate.

Please kids, for your own sake, strive for mediocrity. Underperforming is obviously key to success these days.

Or, maybe I should say MapleWOOD.

$%&@ING THING SUCKS!!!

I’ve been seeing this quote on various blogs and sites I frequent. Enough to wonder, “Where the hell does this come from?” So I did a little research. Turns out it’s from our good friend Bill O’Reilly — and when say “good friend” I mean the spawn of satan.

From worthless-hack.com:

Yes, the man who holds himself up as the great moral voice of this country was once the host of a tabloid television show. From the clip, I can’t tell if the teleprompter wasn’t working, or if he just didn’t understand the words on the screen.

And, on to the show…

Don’t miss the dance remix. This left me in tears:

EDIT: Just ran across some more remixes:

Hey, you with the iPod!

OTTAWA - The federal government is secretly negotiating an agreement to revamp international copyright laws which could make the information on Canadian iPods, laptop computers or other personal electronic devices illegal and greatly increase the difficulty of travelling with such devices.

The deal could also impose strict regulations on Internet service providers, forcing those companies to hand over customer information without a court order.

Called the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), the new plan would see Canada join other countries, including the United States and members of the European Union, to form an international coalition against copyright infringement.

Excerpt from The Vancouver Sun

So, let me get this straight. I’ll need to carry around my entire CD collection to prove to you that I own the music on my iPod? Plus I’ll need to carry around my DVDs to prove to you that I own the movies on my laptop when I travel? I’m so happy to see our government focusing on securing our borders from such malicious threats… while drugs continue to waft in from the south, and God-knows-what from either coast.

And, yes, please examine the contents of my computer and monitor my internet activity at any time with no court order. That’s also in my best interest.

So, who’s behind ACTA in the US? Let’s see…

Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA)[4]

Now, who “donates” to this man’s campaign?

2006 Contributions:
- Time Warner $21,000
- News Corp $15,000
- Sony Corp of America $14,000
- Walt Disney Co $13,550
- Top two Industries:
- TV/Movies/Music $181,050
- Lawyers/Law Firms $114,200

I scoff at those who truly believe that we have a government “for the people, by the people.” We have a government run by businesses such as those listed above. If you’ve got the money, you’ve got the power. It’s not rocket science. Follow the money trail. A system interested in “the people” would be addressing real issues. Not this bullshit.
